Parts of the fortified enclosure and a retaining wall of the city were discovered at the sites of St. Demetrius, St. George, Alonia and Kastro. The first site is located on the slopes of the first hill of the settlement and probably constituted one of the gates, while the next two sites are located high up and are preserved in fragments. The imposing retaining wall at the site known as Kastro stands out, which is preserved at a great height and its structure differs from the other parts of the walls.
The ancient fortification is preserved in fragments and it is found in four different parts of the hills of the settlement:
The lowest part of the fortified enclosure, which was perhaps one of the entry points, was located behind the chapel of St. Demetrius. A corner is formed at this point, while many of the cornerstones of the wall were used in more recent burials.
Part of the wall preserved at the location known as Alonia is composed of rectangular lime bricks, placed on two fronts, with the interior reinforced by various stones. A tower or gate (Classical-Hellenistic period) has also been discovered in the area.
Part of the wall at the location known as St. George is preserved in fragments and at a low height. It is composed of rectangular lime bricks, while the use of granite bricks is limited. It dates back to the Classical or early Hellenistic period.
At the location known as Kastro, a large part of a retaining wall is preserved, with a length of approximately 30m. It is made of local granite bricks, applied to rectangular, irregular masonry and it constitutes the earliest part of the fortification.
