Archaeological Sites and Monuments in the region of Nea Flogita
Our Ephorate, in cooperation with the Cultural Association of Nea Flogita, organized and carried out an Information Conference entitled “Archaeological Sites and Monuments of the region of Flogita” at the ‘Ioustinianos’ Center of Byzantine Culture of Flogita on November 5, 2017. Informing the local community engaged in archaeological sites and monuments on a regular basis is part of the communication activities of the Archaeological Service of the Ministry and marks the strong interaction developed between the science of archeology and the public.
The aim of the conference was to inform the local community about the history of sites and monuments in the wider region of Nea Flogita. More specifically, the cases presented focused on the prehistoric and ancient settlements discovered in the region, the fortification wall of Potidaea and the settlement of Veria of the middle Byzantine period, the Athonite dependencies (metochia) in the Kalamaria region, while a large part of the presentations was devoted to the restoration works of the dependency of Nea Flogita, the museology and museography of the Museum, as well as the Open Center for the Conservation of Antiquities.
